I love a soundtrack for every season. October has its spooky playlists, ready and waiting. December has Christmas music in every store, every kitchen, and every car. And then there is November, waiting in the middle with nothing to play.
The Gap I Almost Missed
There was no big moment of discovery. It crept up on me over a few Novembers. I would wrap up my Halloween playlists, go looking for the next thing, and come up empty. Nothing felt quite right for the days when the leaves are still turning, the kitchen is getting busier, and the light is going gold and then gray.
So, I would jump straight to Christmas. Every year it felt a little like skipping a chapter in a good book. The story still made sense, but I knew something was missing.
Looking back, the signs were there. I kept saying I was not ready for Christmas music yet, and I kept meaning it. I was not ready to leave autumn behind. I wanted more time with the pumpkin bread, the warm sweaters, and the feeling that the year was gathering itself up for a deep breath.
Building the Playlist November Needed
Eventually I decided to stop waiting for someone else to fill the gap and built it myself. I started collecting songs about autumn. I kept adding, and the playlist kept growing. It is now 12.5 hours long. That is a whole lot of November, and I have no plans to trim it. I still add new songs every year.
Some songs are about the season itself, the crisp air and the changing leaves. Some are about the food, because a good song about pie is a real thing. And some are simply about being thankful, which turns out to be the heart of the month. When I press play, it feels like the whole season is welcoming me in.
What Plays While the Season Happens
Now November has a sound. It plays while something simmers on the stove. It plays before Sunday football and the slow, cozy afternoons around it. It plays on slow evenings when the light goes early and the house feels like exactly the right place to be. Sometimes it’s upbeat and sometimes it’s melancholy, just like the season itself.
The music did something I did not expect. It slowed me down. When the season has its own soundtrack, it becomes a place to settle in instead of a hallway to rush through on the way to December. Gratitude, celebration, and leaning into the heart of fall all have room to breathe.
I have started to think of it as a small ritual. Press play, settle in, and let November be exactly what it is. There is no pressure to hurry toward the next big thing. There is just the music, the food, the people, and the gratitude that comes with all of it.

Every Business Has a November
I think about this a lot in my work with brands. Most businesses know how to show up for the big, loud moments: the launch, the sale, the holiday rush. The in-between stretches get skipped, and that is a missed chance to connect.
The in-between is where trust gets built. It is where you share the story behind your work, thank the people who make it possible, and remind your community why they chose you. A brand that keeps showing up through the quiet months is one people remember when the busy season arrives.
Think about the stories sitting in those silent stretches. The behind-the-scenes moments, the small wins, the lessons from the year so far. They rarely feel big enough to share, yet they are often the ones that make a brand feel human. Your audience does not need a grand announcement every week. They need to feel like someone is still there, still caring, and still telling the story.
So give your own November some attention. What is the season between for your business? What would its soundtrack sound like?
If you are ready to tell the story of your in-between seasons, let's talk. I would love to help you find the words.
